Perikles Katsaros and his family welcome new and old friends to Nikolas Taverna, one of the best loved and most frequented tavernas in Corfu.
We thought that you might be interested in learning something about the history of the taverna and the family.

Perikles and his family opened Kalami Tourist Services in 1986 as an information and exchange centre. Being the only office of its kind in the area, it served a need for tourists visiting the bay. Over the years the services it offers have been extended to include: day trips to and from Kassiopi and boat trips around Corfu. Quality accommodation owned by Perikles' family is offered in Kalami and the surrouding areas.

“NIKOLAS TAVERNA”

Easter in Corfu is a life time experience.

“Nikolas Taverna” and“Nikolas accommodation” will be expecting for you to experience the traditional Corfiot Easter with the hospitality of Perikles Katsaros you shouldn’t miss.

The Easter feast sets the whole town and island on move (796 churches).

Everything starts on Holy Friday. Epitaph’s litany takes place escorted by Philharmonic orchestras, choruses and choirs.

Saint Spiridon’s Epitaph litany is held on the Holy Saturday, escorted by His Relics too in memory of the famine salvation.

At 11 o clock the first Resurrection also takes place, which is a real festive explosion. Out of the decorated windows with the damask tissues hundreds of vases made of clay (botides) are thrown. The break makes a lot of noise in memory of an indefinite medieval exorcism, with which they expelled the evil and frightened the Lord’s enemies.

The day ends up with the Resurrection liturgy, with the churches in the villages full of people candles and fireworks.

Easter day the feast begins. “Nikolas Taverna” prepares for its guests the traditional lamp, lots of wine, music and dancing till late.
